Cybersecurity has moved beyond the technical department because a major incident can interrupt operations, expose customer data, trigger regulatory scrutiny and damage trust.
Boards and senior executives therefore need to understand which systems are critical, how quickly they can be restored, who is responsible during an incident and whether suppliers introduce additional vulnerabilities.
Good cyber governance is not based on the assumption that every attack can be prevented. It is based on preparation: reducing exposure, detecting problems quickly, containing damage and recovering with accurate communication.
